A COUPLE OF IDEAS TO SAY THANK YOU MOM!

      A living loving gift is always appreciated by mothers. My mother passed a number of years ago but I still remember that smile when I brought her something for Mothers Day. I have a couple of suggestions that I believe will not only show your gratitude on Mother’s Day but will continue all year long year after year. Here are a couple of suggestions for you.

    First we have Azaleas. You can purchase one of these for $10.00 and change and plant it for her at a location where she can see it daily even if she has to stay indoors. If you want to go all out and see that she really has a great spring show every year dig out a new bed and plant 3 of these together. Guaranteed she will be smiling for weeks next spring watching that blooming show!

    For $20.00 and change you can plant an Ornamental Crab Apple Tree for her that only grows to 6’- 8’ tall and puts on an early spring bloom that leaves you know spring has arrived! We also have Magenta Crab Apple Trees in the same price range.

 We sell by Appointment and Curbside Pickup Only Tuesday thru Friday 9 AM till 5:30 PM and Saturday 9 AM till 3 PM.  Social distancing and masks as ordered by the governor in effect.  Book as soon as possible because we only have so many slots per day available.

TRANSPLANTING SHRUBS AND TREES IN YOUR LANDSCAPE

   Have you ever looked at your Landscape and thought, if only that shrub was over there and that tree was on the other side of the house? I know I’ve been asked many times at our Plant Sales when is the best time to do that?

   The answer is anytime the plant you want to move is dormant. Dormancy in shrubs and trees occurs when the temperature falls to 28 degrees or below and stays there for 6-8 hours for at least two nights in the fall. My rule of thumb for digging and transferring shrubs and trees is anytime after Thanksgiving and before the plant gets its new set of leaves in the spring which is usually April 1 thru April 15^th . My preference is to transplant Thanksgiving to end of December. By transplanting at this time you have a plant that is ready to come out of dormancy as soon as the first signs of spring appear.

  They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I had my lovely wife and business partner video me transplanting a shrub.

We have a huge quality selection of shrubs and perennials at $6.97 each. One of my favorite plants is Clethra. We have Hummingbird & Ruby Spice that are ready to plant and ready to grow and bloom next summer. A steal at $6.97 ea. Our Weigela are outstanding with my wife’s favorite Red Prince leading the way. We also have Tango, Variegated, Minuet (Dwarf), and Java Red. These brighten any landscape in the spring. We have Callacarpa Early Amthyst and Duet Variegated at only $6.97 each. They are great for summer bloom and fall berries and make great hedges and more. Before I go any further, print this out, grab a green or red pen and circle the plants you are interested in.

Oh yes, we have a beautiful crop of Salix Hakura Nishiki that year after year with very little care give a beautiful leaf bloom and that whisp in the wind always gets my attention. Spirea are a great  addition to any landscape. We have Gold Flame, Goldmound, Neon Flash, Anthony Waterer, and Lemon Princess.

Every Landscape needs at least one of the following! We grow most of the plants we sell. Most nursery or garden centers buy in plants as they need them. The reason we grow are own is so we can offer them at a better price, grow them here, not down south in a totally different environment where many garden centers purchase their plants to sell. I’m not saying that is a bad thing, just asking, would you rather have a plant that is grown in our environment or one that is not acclimated to it?

 Kathy and I first want to say thank you to everyone who has attended our plant sale events this spring! We enjoy many of our regular customers who come year after year and even bring people with them to shop with us. This year we met a lot of new people and genuinely enjoyed meeting you and look forward to seeing you again. When we close Saturday at 4 p.m. we will be closed until we reopen in the fall with our sale events so now is the time to come if you want plants at a reasonable price.

  For only $6.97 we have shrubs like:  Red Prince Weigela with their red bell shaped flowers now in bloom and as added bonus they do it again in late summer! Everyone needs one of these.
